Learning report: The foot pedals are source of fustration

Some good advice I seen as it relates to learning to sew is to go slow as you are learning. Someone should tell that to the pedal. These cheep plastic pedals are less that precise and require even opening them up and turning a potentiometer to control the over all speed which is not something I would expect the typical demographic of sewers to inherently know to do. This is just simply bad design, though I will admit at least its built in a way you can break it up on adjust. But to make it things worse, the speed slider is pushed forward by a little plastic triangle and plastic does not slide smoothly so even after I made the adjustment to the speed I still had points of friction that would cause the speed to just jump from not moving at all to almost 40%+ speeds. Not at all a linear smooth glide, but instead a burst of confusion and frustration as my needle races ahead of my expectation. Not the best learning experience. My only hope is that with uses the friction smooths out more and I get more predictable speeds.

Over all I learned that sewing many layers is a challenge when there is little room and that without being able to start slow due to the issues I have with the foot pedal it can make for some really sloppy back stiches.
